"Led only by her shadowy dreams and pursued by the invading army, Serafina and her best friend Neela embark on a quest to avenge her parents' death and prevent a war between the mer nations. In the process they discover a plot that threatens their -and our- world's very existence."

This is a great read for those young ones (and the young ones at heart) who love fantasy.  Set in an underwater world, it tells the story of 6 teenaged mermaids who are chosen to go on a quest to save both their world as well as the human world. This first book of a 4 book saga, sets the story, introduces the characters, especially Serafina and Neela, how they meet the other four mermaids, each with their own personalities, talents and flaws, as well as the starting events that will lead up to either fulfilling their mission or losing everything.

With a strong emphasis in trust, friendship and family, it's an easy read with good character growth and a great story pace that takes the reader little by little into a very tightly knit world.
