José María Casciaro was born in 1923 in the south-east of Spain. At the age of 16 he met St Josemaría Escrivá who, in 1928, had founded Opus Dei. A year later Casciaro joined Opus Dei. He moved to Madrid to continue his studies. It was during this period that he lived with St Josemaría. José María Casciaro later obtained doctorates in Arts and in Theology. He was ordained in 1951. He was a theologian of world renown and wrote many books on his research into the bible and theology.

In It is Worth While, Casciaro recalled the years he lived with the Founder. Reflecting on episodes in that period he realised that they formed the very weave of his existence. They highlight how a young person saw the spirit of Opus Dei being practised among the first handful of members. Here we have an eye-witness account which is both lively and an invaluable resource material for those interested in the early history of Opus Dei.
