The author is a German, Jörg Bong, who lives between his country and Brittany, France. This is the seventh work in the Brittany Mystery Series, with Commissaire Georges Dupin. The style, the setting in French Brittany and the central characters reflect the author's sympathy for this region.

The protagonist has been "banished" from Paris to this area at the end of the earth, and slowly, with the help of his secretary Nolwenn, becomes more and more familiar with "life" in Brittany. His friend Claire, a heart specialist, has moved from Paris to a hospital in Brittany.

The action centers on the "Forêt de Paimpont", the largest forest in Brittany, where the legends of King Arthur and his knights are set. Georges arrives accompanied by his two inspectors, Riwal and Kadek, and the secretary Nolwenn: an excursion of the police station. The Commissaire must first interview a local researcher on behalf of a colleague from the Paris police. The excursion turns into a nightmare: the expert has been murdered and shortly afterwards there is another murder and a foiled attempt. All are members of the French committee of the International Arthurian Association. The two inspectors disappear in the middle of the investigation and Commissaire Dupin has to work against the clock: Claire has given him 48 hours to return and help him unpack the furniture in the new house where they are going to move.

The author distinguishes moral and immoral behaviors and makes clear the ethical level of the characters, driven by vainglory. The inspector and his friend have decided to live together. There are no inconvenient descriptions. The reader should be aware that this work of fiction reflects a part of the reality and lacks, for example, transcendent values.
