Through the biography of six important statesmen of the second half of the 20th century, the author describes the main virtues of Leadership in politics: fortitude, foresight, generosity, service to the common good, both national and international, and humility. Belonging to a religious denomination is seen as very important for personality formation (of the six politicians examined, five were believers: Catholic Adenauer and De Gaulle, Quaker Nixon, Islamic Sadat, Methodist Thatcher). In fact, errors and limitations of each are also highlighted. The author emphasizes for all of them the importance of ethics in politics, humanistic training and diplomatic dialogue for the peaceful resolution of conflicts between states.
