This is the most popular children's book in the Ramona series. The illustrations, suggestive, are by Alan Tiegreen. The Quim family consists of Bea, the older sister, Ramona and her parents. They have a pet cat. In this story, the father is unemployed and despite looking hard, he can't find a job, so they decide that the mother will move from a part-time job to a full-time job while the father will do the housework, go to the meetings at Glenwood School where the girls study and all the chores that the mother used to do.

These are the adventures of Ramona, who is restless and mischievous and never stops inventing mischief to amuse herself. They are a happy family despite the lack of money. The style is nice, witty, simple, easy to read. Written for children between 7 and 11 years old. It won the Newbery Medal. Ramona's adventures have inspired a popular TV series.
