The case to be resolved by Commissioner Georges Dupin concerns the death of three men in the open sea. The antecedents are complex and mixed with the disappearance of a fourth person. Dupin's peculiar way of working and the associations he develops are presented to the reader as successive interesting and difficult decisions.
What most captivates the reader is Bannalec's language, full of images and with his gaze fixed on individuals and their peculiar way of being, on the luminosity of Brittany and the special atmosphere of the Glenan group of islands near the coast. Dupin is different from the classical detectives, with a mediocre sentimental life and a complicated relationship with his own mother. His attitude of avoiding confrontations by simply forgetting the calls received is described with the same plausibility as the peculiarities of the sailors and divers of the Glenan Islands. In addition to an interesting criminal case, the author presents an entertaining and intelligent reading that arouses in the reader a passion for Brittany and makes it known to those who have never been there.
